This research used reactive dyes to examine the effect of different coloring method on wet blue chrome collagen fibers. This research was done in order to obtain more eco-label coloring method as new alternatives, especially on leather needing high washing fastness. The application of these reactive dyes is intended to reach better level of leather washing fastness compared to conventional method using acid dyes.
This research used 12 sides of first-and-second-qualified sheep wet-blue, taken randomly from the bath within chrome tanning process. They were cut along the backbone into 24 sides, randomized and numbered 1-24. Wet blue number 1-12 were treated using reactive dyestuff black, red, blue, and yellow for nappa, suede and upholstery. Number 13-24 were treated using acid dyestuff black, red, blue and yellow.
Statistic Data Analysis used was uni-variant General Linear Model with tree independent variables, i.e., dyestuff type (factor X1), color group (factor X2), leather type (factor X3) and a dependent variable, i.e., washing fastness (factor Y). SPSS program 15 full version, F and significant test were used to analyze the data.
The result of statistic analysis shows that washing fastness of reactive dyestuff is different from acid dyestuff. The result of F test is 346.931 with significant value < 0.05. Mean value of washing fastness for reactive dyestuff is higher (better) than acid dyestuff. Washing fastness of black color is lower while yellow is higher, whereas leather type is not significant for washing fastness.
